Who are the top 20 Ethereum NFT whales?
The top NFT whale is SethS, with a portfolio worth 11,748 ETH (valued at approximately $19.23 million as of September 19). Wilcox follows closely behind with a portfolio worth 11,336 ETH (around $18.55 million).

These top Ethereum NFT whales, in terms of NFT holdings, are all multimillionaires but have not yet reached the billionaire level.

Among the top 20 NFT whales, 18 of them hold CryptoPunks, with only two exceptions. Huang Licheng holds 4,552 ETH worth of BAYC, ranking tenth.

What NFTs do these whales hold?
Nearly all of the top NFT whales have substantial portfolios consisting of CryptoPunks holdings. For 18 of the top 20 NFT whales, blue-chip PFP NFT collections make up at least half of their portfolio values.

Many of these NFT whales are considered "OG" CryptoPunks holders who were involved in the series' minting. Specifically, Wilcox currently holds the most CryptoPunks, with 215, while SethS owns 668 CryptoPunks V1.

The exceptions are Machi Big Brother Huang Licheng and JRNY Crypto, who have entered the ranks of top NFT whales through their BAYC holdings. Machi achieved his NFT whale ranking with 135 BAYC NFTs, while JRNY Crypto (or Tony) holds 103 BAYC NFTs. Neither of them currently holds any CryptoPunks in their portfolios.

Unlike the other 19 largest NFT whales, Huang Licheng is the only whale who has incurred losses due to NFT investments, estimated at approximately -6,776 ETH, most of which are unrealized losses.

Largest NFT Collectors
Among the top 20 NFT whales, 7 are also significant collectors: SethS, Wilcox, Mr.703, Gary Vaynerchuk, Machi, ddaavvee, and JRNY Crypto, each owning over 1000 NFTs in their respective whale portfolios. For example, NFT whale ddaavvee holds a diverse collection of more than 4,872 NFTs in their athrab.eth address.

Five of the top 20 NFT whales have exceptionally diverse portfolios, with each NFT coming from over 60 different Ethereum collections. Ddaavvee's collection is highly diverse, with holdings from over 202 different series, followed by Machi, who owns 101 different series. In comparison, the average number of different NFT collections held by top NFT whales is approximately 34.

Note: This research is based on data from the NFTGo rankings as of September 18, which ranks whale addresses with NFT portfolios valued at least $1 million. NFTGo identifies highly correlated addresses based on the number of receives and sends and investigates whether they belong to the same whale, grouping them together when relevant.
