As October's NBA training camp approaches, the future of the dual stars Lillard and Harden, who have been seeking trades, remains unknown. Both the Blazers and the 76ers, where they currently play, have been in a state of anxiety in the trade market as they are reluctant to easily trade away their two franchise players. When it comes to which teams have the most uncertainty going into the new season, these two are certainly in the mix.
Lillard applied for a trade due to his refusal to participate in the team's rebuilding efforts, and it has been over two months now. However, other than the Heat, no one has shown serious interest in him. Unfortunately, what the Heat can offer in return doesn't fully satisfy the Blazers' management.
The latest news indicates that Lillard's stance of "Miami or nowhere" has started to change, and he is willing to consider other teams. There have been rumors that the Raptors have extended an olive branch. The Raptors have many young prospects, which aligns with the Blazers' desire for a younger roster. However, under the new CBA, the Raptors would be taking a considerable gamble by absorbing Lillard's remaining 4-year, $220 million contract, and the two sides may not reach a consensus before the start of training camp.
On the other hand, Harden's situation is even more challenging. He had a falling-out with the 76ers during the offseason, straining their relationship. However, the Clippers, his preferred team, failed to provide an appropriate offer to the 76ers, resulting in stalled trade negotiations. With the reporting date for training camp drawing near, Harden is facing a difficult decision.
It's reported that the 76ers are inclined to keep Harden to repair the fractured relationship and do not rule out the possibility of restarting trade negotiations midseason if circumstances change. However, Harden's desire to play for the 76ers has waned significantly, and the future of the 76ers appears to be even more uncertain.
At this point, the Blazers have time on their side, and the 76ers are looking for reconciliation. This ongoing saga of where the dual stars will land may take even more time to unfold. |
