India's senior players are set to return for the third ODI, offering the team a chance to achieve its first-ever whitewash against Australia in the history of this format.
In the upcoming third ODI against Australia, Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah will make their comebacks. This match marks their final appearance before the practice games leading up to the 2023 World Cup. India, with an opportunity to secure a whitewash against Australia in the ODI format for the first time, has displayed dominance in the initial two ODIs.
During the pre-match press conference, Rohit practically unveiled the playing XI. He explained that he has had to work with a depleted squad due to a combination of player rest and a viral fever outbreak within the camp. All-rounder Hardik Pandya was not part of the series squad, while Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur had to depart for personal reasons. In-form opener Shubman Gill is slated for a rest, and with Ruturaj Gaikwad also preparing for the Asian Games men's matches, Ishan Kishan could open the innings alongside Gill.
The absence of these players ensures that Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav will feature in the middle order. Kuldeep, Bumrah, and Siraj seamlessly reintegrate into the squad. India is also likely to retain Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, with the latter increasingly poised to make the World Cup squad if Axar Patel is unable to regain full fitness before the tournament
