On September 23rd, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins spoke to the media about Ja Morant's suspension.
"We've been discussing what kind of level we, as a team, should play at. This isn't about any one individual," Jenkins stated during the interview.
"It's clear that Morant will miss 25 games, and he, along with other players on the team, have already discussed this topic."
"But we will be prepared; there's no doubt about that. Every player in the lineup will be ready at any given moment, including Morant. When he comes back, he will be prepared, just like the other 17 players."
"Whether you're in the rotation or dealing with injuries, we all need to have a 'next man up' mentality."
"It's too early to say anything now. Over the past two years, we've had players miss extended periods for various reasons, but we just want to reach our own standards and play our brand of basketball in every game."
"Can Morant practice with the team during his suspension?" a reporter asked Jenkins.
There are still some details to work out. We hope he can spend as much time with the team as possible, but this will need to be decided after discussions with the league," Jenkins replied.
