According to a new study by Pantera Capital, approximately 97% of people in the cryptocurrency industry receive their basic salaries in fiat currency, while only 3% are paid in cryptocurrencies (based on salary data for 2023 from 1,046 responses). Among those who are paid in cryptocurrency, the vast majority use stablecoins like USDC and USDT, with 13% choosing BTC. The research indicates that the average salary for 570 surveyed engineers worldwide is $120,000, with North American engineers earning an average of $193,000, a 1.5% increase from the previous year. In comparison, traditional "Web2" engineering roles in North America are estimated to have an average salary of $166,100. The Pantera report concludes, "Income for senior engineers in Web3 is slightly higher than their counterparts in Web2." The report also shows that approximately 88% of positions in the cryptocurrency industry are remote, compared to an estimated 28% for Web2 roles (CoinDesk). |
