An Impact in LBW is the moment when the ball hits the pad/ shoes/ or any part of the body on the first touch. While during a DRS review, the first point of judgment is considered as pitching and this should be in line, followed by impact (first point of contact) and the balls should hit the stumps. This will give three reds and thus, a batsman is out. However, there have been several controversial takes on the batsman getting out without all three parameters getting red.

LBW requires three conditions to fulfill:
Pitching: The initial pitch of the ball. This should be in the stump line.
Impact: The first point of contact with the batsman’s pad/ elbow or any part of the body.
Wickets: The ball should ideally hit the middle and off stump for a review to be successful.

Impact refers to the point when the ball slides in and crashes to the batsman’s pad and this would be taken into consideration for judging a LBW dismissal.
