Yuga Labs security engineer Sam Curry, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that he was taken in for a second examination by U.S. federal agents on September 15 after returning from a trip to Japan. Curry stated that agents from the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) division and the Department of Homeland Security questioned him at Washington Dulles International Airport regarding a "high-profile phishing campaign." They conducted a search of his unlocked phone and served him with papers, including a grand jury subpoena requiring him to testify in New York next week. According to a photo of the subpoena shared by Curry, the grand jury is investigating telecommunications fraud and money laundering. Curry later received confirmation that the prosecutor realized he was involved in an investigation related to cryptocurrency theft but not as a participant. His device's data copy was deleted, and the grand jury subpoena was canceled. |
