"In recent days, the football world has once again been stirred by exciting news as Saudi Arabia has announced its independent bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. This announcement has not only excited football enthusiasts within Saudi Arabia but has also generated global anticipation and attention.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation officially expressed this ambitious bid. They emphasized that this decision is aimed at hosting a world-class tournament to showcase Saudi Arabia's ongoing social and economic transformation, as well as the deep-rooted passion for football in the country. This marks Saudi Arabia's first-ever participation as an independent bidder for the World Cup, a significant step in their pursuit of realizing their dream to host a world-class sporting event. Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, stated that the bid for the 2034 World Cup reflects the progress Saudi Arabia has made across various domains. He emphasized that with its rich cultural heritage, strong economic prowess, and the ambitions of its people, Saudi Arabia is swiftly emerging as an international hub capable of hosting major international events.

This is not Saudi Arabia's first experience hosting international sporting events. Since 2018, they have successfully hosted numerous major sports events, including football, motorsports, tennis, equestrianism, esports, and golf, involving over 50 male and female athletes. The Saudi national football team has also made several appearances in the World Cup finals, demonstrating their strength and potential on the global football stage. The bid for the 2034 World Cup aligns with Saudi Arabia's 2030 vision, which views sports as a crucial means to drive national economic growth and enhance people's quality of life. Hosting the World Cup will not only bring substantial economic benefits domestically but will also provide an unparalleled sporting spectacle for football enthusiasts worldwide.

The bid for the 2034 World Cup represents a milestone in Saudi Arabian sports development and will inject new energy and passion into world football. We look forward to this highly anticipated event, driven by Saudi Arabia's initiative, successfully taking place and delivering an exciting football extravaganza for fans across the globe."

I can't believe they're hosting the FIFA World Cup on a mountain peak, but it's actually possible!

We don't know what to expect from a World Cup hosted by Saudi Arabia, but they certainly have the financial resources, so it should be impressive.

Has it already been decided, or is it just the application?

It's unlikely to be held in Saudi Arabia since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has just concluded. It wouldn't make sense to host it in Asia again within 12 years.

Saudi Arabia isn't short of money; hosting a World Cup should be no problem.

FIFA has indeed gone to great lengths to facilitate the World Cup in Saudi Arabia. Following the rotation system for hosting the World Cup among the major continents, by 2030, the World Cup will have visited Europe, Africa, and South America. This leaves Asia and Oceania for the remaining 34-year cycle. Asia, with Saudi Arabia's enthusiasm and FIFA's support, appears to be the most viable candidate. It seems that Australia, representing Oceania, may not have significant aspirations for hosting the World Cup.

Therefore, it's quite likely that the 2034 World Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has a strong football tradition in Asia, and although they have experienced some challenging moments in the World Cup, they did achieve the remarkable feat of defeating the reigning champions, Argentina, in a previous World Cup. The football culture is indeed fervent. Currently, the Saudi football league has attracted numerous high-profile players, with even Cristiano Ronaldo becoming synonymous with Saudi football. It's evident that Saudi Arabia is enjoying a thriving football scene. Hosting the World Cup in Saudi Arabia makes sense, especially given their financial capabilities.
