"Basic Gameplay
Baccarat is played with 3 to 8 decks, each consisting of 52 cards, shuffled together and placed in a dealing shoe. A dealer distributes the cards. The goal for each player is to have a hand with a total point value of 9 or as close to 9 as possible. In Baccarat, cards with face values (Kings, Queens, Jacks, and 10s) are counted as 0, while other cards are counted according to their face value. When calculating the total, only the last digit is taken into account. The player who places the highest bet becomes the banker.
In the 20th century, Mr. Ho, from Macau, introduced Baccarat to Macau from the United States and gave it an Oriental-sounding name - Baccarat.
Baccarat offers various betting options, including Banker (Banco), Player (Punto), Tie, and Pair (Player Pair or Banker Pair). Additionally, some casinos offer unique betting options like Big, Small, Banker's Double, Banker's Single, Player's Double, and Player's Single. The terms ""Banker"" and ""Player"" don't have specific meanings but represent the two sides of the game. The ""Tie"" and ""Pair"" options are added for entertainment purposes, allowing players to bet on a tie result or specific pairs in the game.
There is no strict limit on the number of players in Baccarat, although most tables accommodate 9 players (small tables) or 14 players (large tables, with 7 on each side). When the total bets placed by the banker and player exceed the table's betting limit (indicated on each table), the dealer conducts a count of the bets in the banker, player, tie, and pair areas (commonly referred to as ""counting red"") before starting the game. The players then need to reduce their bets to the table's limit. Each table also has a minimum bet requirement.
Players can bet on whether the banker or player will have a hand with a total point value of 9 or closest to 9. K, Q, J, and 10 are counted as 0 in the game. The point total is calculated by adding up the values of the cards in each hand and considering only the last digit. If a player believes that the banker and player hands will result in a tie, they can bet on a ""Tie."" Additionally, players can bet on pairs of cards, like two 3s or two Qs, which is called ""Pair"" (note that pairs of 10s, Js, Qs, or Ks don't count as pairs).
Players also have the option to look at the hole cards and decide whether to flip or keep them. In some casinos, only the dealer can reveal the hole cards.
Baccarat is typically played with 8 decks of cards, which are shuffled and placed in the dealing shoe. Both the banker and player sides receive at least two cards but no more than three. The first and third cards are dealt to the ""Player"" side, while the second and fourth cards are dealt to the ""Banker"" side. Whether to draw a third card is determined by specific drawing rules.
In Baccarat, Ace cards are worth 1 point, numbered cards retain their face value, and 10s, Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth 0 points (some casinos consider 10s as 10 points). When the total point value of all the cards exceeds 9, only the last digit is considered. So, the highest possible point total is 9 (e.g., a 4 and a 5: 4 + 5 = 9), and the lowest is 0, which is also called ""baccarat"" (e.g., a 10 and a Q: 10 + 10 = 20, only the last digit, 0, is counted)." |
