"According to the Macau Financial Services Bureau's data, the gaming tax in the first 9 months of this year has brought the Macau government a staggering MOP 457.7 billion (approximately $56.8 billion USD) in fiscal revenue. This represents a 202.7% increase compared to the same period last year, despite the travel restrictions related to Covid-19 that were in place.
In September alone, the government's gaming tax revenue exceeded MOP 66.5 billion, showing a 3.3% increase from the previous month. Since January 1, 2023, Macau has implemented a ten-year system for gaming concessions, with an effective tax rate of 40% on gross gaming revenue (GGR).
For the first 9 months of 2023, Macau's gross gaming revenue from casinos was MOP 1,289.5 billion, marking a substantial 305.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022. It's important to note that for various reasons, tax collections within specific calendar periods cannot be directly compared to Macau's casino GGR due to the timing of tax payments for these gaming activities and the recording of casino GGR revenue by the Macau government.
According to the government's budget, the gaming tax is expected to bring in over MOP 508.5 billion for the entire year. As of 2023, the revenue collected in the first 9 months already covers 99% of the annual target." |
