October 23rd News: In the third round of the 2023 World Championship Swiss format, DK defeated BDS 2-0 to advance to the next round. After the match, mid-laner ShowMaker was interviewed by Korean media as follows:
Q: You won 2-0.
ShowMaker: Let's consider the fire on our heads extinguished, and we have 3 or 4 days left. We'll prepare well and aim to win the next game.
Q: How did you overcome the pressure of being 0-2?
ShowMaker: I don't know why, but from the match against G2 to the one against KT, I've had an inexplicable confidence. Honestly, I didn't feel much nervousness or pressure today. I tried to make jokes with my teammates to keep them relaxed.
Q: What were the differences compared to the previous matches?
ShowMaker: Just looking at Ban-Pick, there were many stylistic changes, so I stayed faithful to that style. If our previous compositions were like winning the game reluctantly, today it felt great to win comfortably because our teammates performed well.
Q: How did you analyze your losses after the consecutive defeats?
ShowMaker: Firstly, there were many discussions about bot lane champions. The part where we organized the priority of champions had some correct and incorrect parts, so we thought about this aspect quite well. Next, the most important thing is our team... How should I put it, Hyeokui (Canna) was strong in lane? Although Hyunggyu (Hengguy) played well too, based on that, the jungle and mid had good farm. When we played the first two games, we chose passive champions for the bot lane, so we talked a lot about that aspect.
Q: Why wasn't the focus on the bot lane in the earlier games?
ShowMaker: At that time, we thought that even if we gave the opponents those champions, we could handle it. So, even if we chose strong champions, it would be more relaxing to give them to the opponents first and then plan the Ban-Pick. That's what we concluded. So, actually, we felt confident regardless of the direction we chose. That's why we did it that way.
Because the training process went smoothly, that's why. If you feel that you can win whether you pick this or that, it's hard to organize, so we showed a bad side of us.
Q: Is the champion priority organized now?
ShowMaker: Firstly, I watched a lot of matches, and I think I didn't make any major mistakes in terms of mid lane champions, so I'm very confident.
Q: What is the basis for your confidence?
ShowMaker: Yeah, I'm not sure. It seems like it always goes smoothly when I participate in international tournaments. To be honest, I'm less nervous than when playing in the LCK, and I don't know why. In any case, it feels smooth.
Q: How do you feel about facing competitive foreign mid laners?
ShowMaker: I still think LCK mid laners are the strongest. I did feel that mid laners from other regions have improved in terms of laning details compared to last year. So, I admire them, and we've learned a lot. But actually, when I played games with LCK mid laners before, I realized that there are things we know but they don't, so we can use those things to our advantage in international matchups.
Q: MAD's Nisqy mentioned that ShowMaker is the strongest mid laner.
ShowMaker: Yes, but Nisqy seems to frequently visit my livestream and seems to like me a lot, so he has given me verbal praise. I think Nisqy is also a very skilled player.
Q: Facing GAM next.
ShowMaker: Although we haven't played against each of their players one by one, when looking at the details from a spectator's perspective, they seem to be good at skirmishes in the top half of the map. I remember Kati plays champions like Jayce and Syndra, which I think is their confident pick. Levi plays around the top half, and they usually draft late-game compositions for the bot lane.
Q: BDS's unconventional strategies are their strengths.
ShowMaker: I tried playing Garen in solo queue yesterday, and I really think Garen is good. Even though no one plays Garen, Garen is still a bit scary. And Darius as well, among those so-called 'GODS', Garen and Darius have performed well. So, we will be cautious of these two champions. We can handle Olaf and Sett, so we prepared with that feeling. But we didn't expect the Volibear, so Canna did well.
Q: Any final words?
ShowMaker: Actually, before the World Championship, I said a lot that I would show a good performance and that I was confident. I'm sorry to start with 0-2 losses. In fact, if we want to win the championship, thinking positively, it's not bad to play more games and advance further, so in the current situation, I will try to generate more positive thoughts and aim to show good results. |
