October 24th report: Korean media NEWS1 has disclosed that the 2024 MSI (Mid-Season Invitational) for the game League of Legends, developed by Riot Games, will be held in Chengdu, China.
According to industry insiders, this will mark the return of the MSI event to mainland China after eight years, following the last MSI held in Shanghai in 2016.
In 2020, the Chinese government expressed its intention to develop Chengdu, located in Sichuan Province, into a city known for its esports culture. A report titled "2019 Sichuan Esports Industry Research" published by the Sichuan Province Esports Association mentioned that Chengdu's esports industry had reached a scale of 18 billion yuan (approximately 3.1 trillion Korean won) and had a player base of 40 million.
Regarding this, a representative from Riot Games stated, "We cannot confirm at this time." |
