90s friends are surely familiar with a virtual pet called Tamagotchi, and now Web3 has its eyes on these virtual pets. For city dwellers, owning a real pet can be challenging, but Web3 is set to bring animal lovers into the world of virtual pet ownership. I've always wanted to have a pet, but the thought of cleaning up after them made me reconsider. In the virtual world, you can have a pet without the hassle of cleaning up after them.
Although Tamagotchis have been around for a while, they are making a comeback. Just like Nintendo, they continue to gain more fans. In late 2021 alone, the Tamagotchi website attracted over 12,000 visitors. Web3 and the metaverse have the potential to revive and transform well-known intellectual property and brands. Last summer, Tamagotchi released a limited edition featuring a Star Wars R2-D2 model, allowing buyers to train R2-D2 to recreate various scenes and play mini-games. The limited edition also includes a wide range of licensed content from Star Wars, Toy Story, Pac-Man, and BTS. Now, with a shift towards Web3 and the metaverse, virtual pet ownership is becoming even more interactive and entertaining.
The NFT market has surpassed traditional art in terms of value, opening doors for pet owners across various industries. In the metaverse, pets won't be limited to just dogs, cats, and rabbits. As technology evolves into Web3, here are some virtual pet projects that every animal enthusiast should keep an eye on. One such project is Meta Gochi, which was launched on the Ethereum network and is one of the largest virtual pet metaverse platforms in the market. Since July 2021, they've had nearly 50,000 active members daily. The platform claims to have received over 30 million USD since July. One of the more interesting aspects of the company is its white paper.
Meta Pets allows users to create and own their pets and participate in various events and activities like dog shows and horse races while earning cash. In the past, I've come across numerous reports about unscrupulous breeders who overbreed their pets just for profit. Some people find pets too much trouble and end up abandoning them, as taking care of a pet is similar to taking care of a child. I hope that virtual animals in the metaverse can help address these issues and reduce harm to them. |
