"Disney's metaverse-themed theme park has finally arrived! This time, you can really hug Mickey Mouse without having to wait in line! Every time you go to Disney and want to take photos with the princesses, you see that long queue and decide not to wait. According to reports, once launched, the metaverse theme park will provide a realistic and highly immersive 3D virtual experience, and visitors won't need to wear AR headphones or use AR-supported smartphones! Awesome~♥
The virtual world simulator will use SLAM technology (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) to continuously track visitors' phones and generate and project personalized 3D effects in theme park attractions or real spaces. This device is not designed for mass entertainment but to create personalized interactive attractions for visitors. For example, one visitor may see Mickey Mouse welcoming them at a hot dog stand, while another visitor may interact with Belle and Cinderella. The virtual world is largely imagined to exist on the internet and can be accessed using virtual reality or AR headphones. However, Disney's proposed technology brings the virtual world into the physical world.
This is not the first time Disney has shown interest in the metaverse. Disney CEO Bob Chapek stated at the company's Q4 earnings call in November 2021 that Disney is interested in blending digital assets with physical assets in the virtual world. We will be able to more closely connect the physical and digital worlds, allowing us to tell stories in our Disney virtual world without restrictions. In November 2020, Tilak Mandadi, Chief Strategy Officer of MGM Resorts International, shared in a LinkedIn post that his goal is to integrate the digital and physical worlds. He wrote, ""As we look to the future, unlocking a connected park experience beyond physical and digital barriers, unlocking new layers of storytelling, is a focus that excites us tremendously.""
