"Look at me, just a sheep. The intelligence of sheep is unimaginable." ("Don't look at me, just a pigeon. The value of pigeons is beyond imagination.") Why would I say the value of pigeons is unimaginable? Because whether it's the prize money in pigeon racing or the prices in auctions, they are beyond our imagination.
Let's talk about pigeon racing first. Many people see pigeon racing as a learning process of skills. Pigeon fanciers invest a lot of time, money, and training into their pigeons, making it a laborious and memorable process. However, recent incidents of pigeons being involved in high-stakes gambling have changed the perception of pigeon racing. People can't help but wonder whether these high-priced racing pigeons are meant for competition or gambling. According to current statistics, there are 800,000 pigeon fanciers, and there are around 20,000 races held every year. With the continuous increase in the amount of money involved in pigeon racing and the lack of relevant regulations, it indirectly leads to issues like gambling and tax evasion.
Behind the substantial prize money, there are inevitably various problems, including gambling and tax-related issues. In reality, using pigeon racing events for illegal activities such as gambling has long been an open secret within the pigeon racing community.
However, what happens inside the community doesn't necessarily reflect the outside perspective. As outsiders, what do you think – is pigeon racing now more of a sport or a form of gambling? |
