Do you all know what Starlink is? Starlink is a space service project planned by the space company SpaceX to provide global high-speed internet access through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit.
SpaceX's Starlink satellites have twice come close to the Chinese space station, prompting the space station assembly to implement preventive collision avoidance controls for the U.S. Starlink satellites. With over 1900 Starlink satellites launched, SpaceX received warnings that Elon Musk's "Starlink" is too extensive, and he is setting his own space rules. Musk has referred to the Starlink project as "one of the most difficult engineering projects of his lifetime," and the presence of Starlink satellites poses a potential threat to spacecraft. Aside from the issue of close encounters, the satellites' collective twinkling in the night sky also interferes with astronomical observations. The Starlink project may contribute to light pollution in the night sky, impacting ground-based telescopes' observations of the universe.
Is this the first time you've learned about such dangers in space? The Starlink project seems to be occupying too many space resources, with each satellite having its designated orbit, but the orbits of each satellite are limited. The deployment of the Starlink constellation is planned from 2019 to 2024. |
