On December 9th, the United States National Vulnerability Database (NVD) marked Bitcoin Ordinals as a cybersecurity risk, urging people to pay attention to this vulnerability. Being added to the NVD list signifies that a specific cybersecurity vulnerability has been identified and is deemed significant for raising public awareness. This database is managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Previously reported, Luke Dashjr, a developer for Bitcoin Core, mentioned that a vulnerability in the Bitcoin Core client exploited by Ordinals had been assigned the identifier CVE-2023-50428. In response, Yu Xian, the founder of SlowMist, stated that it is normal for CVE numbers to be referenced by the NVD and that it doesn't necessarily escalate to seeking assistance from the U.S. federal government to review the level of serial/ciphertext transaction scrutiny. |
