In an effort to promote the overall growth of cricket in the nation, Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday named former opener Sanath Jayasuriya as a full-time consultant for the game for a year. Jayasuriya's appointment comes after the national selection panel was reorganized on Wednesday, with Upul Tharanga, a former opener and new lead selector, in charge. In this capacity, Jayasuriya will be in charge of making sure SLC national programs reach the highest standards of professionalism and that all players and coaching staff are kept under close observation to provide excellence, the SLC stated in a press release.
