Sotheby's announces its inaugural auction of Bitcoin Ordinals artwork.

Sotheby's Digital Art Department has announced that it will auction artworks from the Bitcoin Ordinals project, BitcoinShrooms, designed by the anonymous artist Shroomtoshi. The auction is scheduled to take place from December 6th to 13th local time, with three pieces currently available for bidding. The series includes two mushroom entities and a pixelated avocado seed named BIP39— a common standard for the mnemonic codes required to create seed phrases. The estimated selling price for these three pieces is around $20,000 to $30,000, and cryptocurrency bids are also accepted by the auction house. Michael Bouhanna, Director of Sotheby's Digital Art, stated upon announcing this news that the art auction will mark Sotheby's first-ever sale of Ordinals artworks.
