December 12th News: Korean media kukinews released a video interview with HLE.Viper. The translation of the second part of the original video is as follows:
Q: After the end of 2023, did you watch the games of the World Championship? You were the champion of the 2021 World Championship, and in the 2019 season, you reached the quarterfinals of the World Championship. It must be regrettable that you couldn't make it to the World Championship this year. Did you watch the World Championship games? If so, how did you feel?
Viper: I always watch the games of the World Championship. Watching the S13 games, I returned to the perspective of a viewer and enjoyed the matches alone, which was quite interesting.
Q: People who play games tend to analyze when watching others play. Did you do the same?
Viper: After the end of this season, I felt the need to rest properly. So, I just watched the games purely, enjoyed them, didn't have many thoughts, and rested well.
Q: What game from the World Championship left the most impression on you?
Viper: The quarterfinals between LNG and T1 left a deep impression on me.
Q: Why did you choose that game?
Viper: It turned out to be even more one-sided than I expected, and it was also a game involving my former teammates, so it left a strong impression.
Q: Does watching the World Championship games motivate you?
Viper: It has always been a good motivation. When I couldn't participate in the World Championship, I would always watch the games, gaining the original motivation to strive to stand on that stage.
Q: When I was collecting information about Viper, I found a fact that I didn't know before. You have been in the scene for six or seven years now and can be considered a veteran. When you first decided to become a professional player and debuted, did you expect to have such a long career?
Viper: I didn't think about these things at that time. Looking back now, it feels like time flies. I played longer than I expected. In the future, and for the rest of my career, I feel like I can continue like this.
Q: Have you recently felt that it's coming to an end?
Viper: I do feel that there's not much time left (in my professional career) now.
Q: Although players born in 2004 and 2005 are starting to appear now, you probably still feel that your skills are not inferior when competing with these young players. How do you see it?
Viper: To be honest, I haven't felt a significant change in my skill level. I'm not sure, but I have thought about whether I can continue my career with the same mentality and posture as time goes on. I can't judge the degree of fatigue in my body and mind right now. I am just determined to give my best in the current moment.
Q: Although you can now be classified as a veteran, there are still many players who have been playing professionally longer than you, such as Faker and Deft. LCK has many veterans. Seeing these players, does it also motivate you? Of course, you are still in the best condition to continue your career. Do you want to play professionally for a long time like them?
Viper: Not only me, but they are also role models and seniors for many other players. So far, they are still outstanding players competing at the highest level. Seeing their current appearance, I both want to be like them and wonder if I can do it. I really want to become a player like them; those players motivate me.
Q: Among the younger players who debuted later than you, are there any AD players that Viper finds outstanding? Whether domestic or foreign players, are there any players you think are performing well?
Viper: Actually, there aren't many new players. The player I think performs the best is still someone who was active on the stage before my debut. If I have to choose among the new players, LCK's Peyz is the one I know of. I'm not familiar with the new players in the LPL.
Q: Why did you choose Peyz?
Viper: First of all, he is very young, and I am curious about what kind of player he will become in the future. I feel that he can still show a good performance in the future, so I chose him.
Q: When you lane against him, you should have feelings. When competing with these young and promising players, do you still feel competitive?
Viper: If not, it would be difficult to continue playing professionally.
Q: Let's talk about the transfer period now. Before the transfer period officially started, HLE announced that you renewed your contract. Why did you choose to renew with HLE? At that time, your teammates were not determined yet, and the team was still in the process of forming a new roster. What were the decisive reasons and opportunities for you to decide to renew with HLE?
Viper: My top priority was to choose a team that would allow me to fully concentrate and immerse myself in the game. I think it's better to continue playing in such an environment next year, and HLE is the team that best fits this condition. I thought, "If I stay with HLE, there should be players joining the team because of me," so I quickly decided to renew with HLE. |
