Courtois, football's worst!Disrespects, insults, mocks – a master at everything!
If we were to talk about the football player with the worst character in today's football world, Belgium's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois would undoubtedly top the list. Not dwelling too much on his infamous incident with a green teammate, Courtois has a long history of controversial actions since the beginning of his career. Recently, during an interview, he made audacious remarks, mocking his Belgian teammates, stating they belong to a relegation team and can never play against the wind.
The incident unfolded after Belgium drew 1-1 with Austria in a friendly match. The atmosphere in the Belgian locker room turned sour, and media reports revealed Courtois, due to his dissatisfaction, openly criticized coach Roberto Martínez in front of all teammates. Furthermore, he criticized some teammates from relegation teams, such as Leicester City's Youri Tielemans and Castagne, stating they lack spirit and cannot play against the wind.
In a recent interview, Courtois acknowledged these claims but clarified the details. While he didn't deny the strained relationship with coach Martínez, he argued that he wasn't mocking his teammates. Instead, he believed players from relegation teams are accustomed to losing, and it's normal for them not to play against the wind. He insisted that he spoke the truth rather than mocking. Nevertheless, Courtois' statements might be factually correct, but publicly criticizing teammates raises questions about his emotional intelligence.
This isn't the first time Courtois has displayed such questionable behavior. He had a fallout with his national team and friend Kevin De Bruyne, ridiculed Real Madrid during Atletico Madrid's title celebration, later transferred to Real Madrid, and mocked Atletico Madrid after their triumph. His move to criticize and force out Chelsea's legendary goalkeeper Petr Čech during his time at Chelsea, and later public outbursts against the team, highlight his problematic behavior.
Considering Courtois' track record, one wonders how he can confidently believe he deserves the captain's armband. A player who openly criticizes his teammates can never be worthy of being a team captain. |
