In this year, much of the discussion has been centered around India's failures in competitions, but it's easy to overlook the peaks they have achieved. For instance, India fielded a team primarily composed of substitute players and easily won a series in South Africa, marking a splendid chapter in ODI history. The beginning of 2023 saw victories at home against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, followed by another series win in the Caribbean. Next up was the Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka, where they demolished the hosts in the final, once again clinching the championship in the 50-over format.
Following that was the World Cup hosted at home, where they reached the pinnacle in the group stage but unfortunately encountered their worst day in the final, losing to Australia. Earlier in the year, Australia had secured a rare bilateral series win in India, the first in four years. Considering the precarious state of ODI cricket (with India planning only three ODIs in 2024 according to the schedule), replicating these achievements will be challenging for anyone.
As fans, let's continue to cheer for them, putting aside the disheartening moments of the past year. Go Team India!!!
