Mitchell Starc was unable to show up the last time the Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank for him. The Australian fast bowler, who KKR acquired for ₹9.4 core, was sidelined for the entirety of the 2018 Indian Premier League season due to an injury. The only choice left to the two-time champions was to let him go prior to the upcoming campaign. Starc hasn't been available for the IPL since then. He stated that he gave priority to major tournaments, Test cricket, and spending time with his family. However, it was almost a given that there would be a bidding war when he ultimately decided to change his mind and relist in the IPL auction. And so it did. One that's never been observed previously.
