Chelsea and Manchester United, once fierce rivals in the Premier League, find themselves in a tough spot. Particularly for Chelsea, under new coach Pochettino, the team not only failed to escape the struggles of the previous season but has deteriorated in the new one. Currently sitting at tenth place, a 14-point gap from the top four and an 18-point gap from the top, their championship hopes seem bleak.
A new season symbolizes a fresh start, despite the setbacks of the previous one. Chelsea made significant investments in strengthening the squad during the summer transfer window, notably boasting a £200 million midfield duo, Enzo and Caicedo. Coupled with the guidance of renowned coach Pochettino, expectations were high for Chelsea to soar in the new season.
Contrary to expectations, Chelsea not only failed to take off but showed no signs of improvement in points. While Pochettino's Chelsea shines against strong opponents, their performance against mid-tier teams is inconsistent, often resulting in draws or losses, contributing to their low point total. Data reveals that after the 18th round loss to Wolves in the Premier League, Chelsea has already suffered 19 league defeats in the entire 2023, with only three teams having more losses in the top five leagues.
In 2023, Chelsea managed to accumulate only 42 league points, ranking third lowest among non-relegation teams. This performance has put Pochettino's managerial position in jeopardy. However, the frustration of many Chelsea fans is directed not towards Pochettino but towards the current owner, Mr. Berli, and the management, accusing them of haphazard player acquisitions and chaotic changes in coaching staff as the primary reasons for Chelsea's rapid decline. In conclusion, Chelsea has a long way to go before making a resurgence. |
