Upul Tharanga, the chief selector for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has announced that Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the country's Test team. He will take over as the Test captain from Dimuth Karunaratne, making him the 18th player from his country to hold the position. Beginning on February 6, the forthcoming one-off Test match against Afghanistan will mark the start of his captaincy tenure. Karunaratne, the team's current captain, has commanded the Test team for 30 matches. Of those, 12 were won, 12 were lost, and six ended in draws.
