Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley called South Africa's decision to send a subpar team for the Tests in New Zealand a "wake-up call" and stated that CA will keep pushing for World Test Championship series with three games or more. After naming a shadow team for the two-Test tour of New Zealand and saving their best players for the second season of the SA20, which was introduced by CSA and IPL investors last year, South Africa faced strong criticism from both current and former players. The SA20 is set to begin on January 10, while the two Tests in New Zealand are scheduled from February 4 to February 17.
