After the announcement of the formation of the European Super League last year, it faced widespread opposition from numerous European teams and fans. Despite the initial involvement of many top clubs, the overwhelming backlash led to the majority of them withdrawing from the Super League within just two days, marking the league's failure. However, some teams remained unwilling to give up, and now the European Super League sees a glimmer of revival. Yet, will things really go smoothly?

Since its announcement, the European Super League has encountered substantial opposition, with official statements from top leagues in various countries expressing their disapproval of its establishment. They threatened domestic teams and players, stating that any team daring to participate in the Super League would be expelled from their country's domestic league. UEFA also declared that any team or player involved in the Super League would be banned from participating in UEFA competitions. Fans across different countries took to the streets to protest against their teams' participation in the Super League.

As a result of the pressure, the initial members of the European Super League, including the BIG6 from the English Premier League, withdrew within just two days. Currently, only Real Madrid and Barcelona persist in trying to establish the Super League. Seeing the Super League on the verge of collapse, these two clubs actively cooperated with the organizers and decided to interpret UEFA's ban as a form of monopolistic practice. They appealed to the European Court of Justice and surprisingly succeeded. The European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA's decision to ban teams and players from participating in the Super League was a form of monopolistic practice, violating EU law. Consequently, UEFA can no longer use the same argument to threaten teams and players.

Following the ruling by the European Court of Justice, Real Madrid and Barcelona released statements, calling it a "new era" and a form of progress. However, UEFA maintained its opposition to the Super League, asserting that the court's decision did not mean they fully supported its establishment. They pledged to continue opposing the Super League in different ways. The majority of European football teams, whether top-tier or lower-tier, immediately issued statements after the ruling, expressing their ongoing resistance to the Super League. They indicated their commitment to stand with UEFA. Currently, despite the legal clearance, the success of the Super League remains highly unlikely, as nearly the entire European football community opposes it. Only Real Madrid and Barcelona, unable to carry the weight of the entire European football, seem to be in favor of the Super League.

This is an intriguing football development, as the court ruling deeming UEFA's actions in violation of EU law marks an interesting turning point. It underscores the complexity of football at both economic and legal levels in Europe. However, despite potential legal clearance, the European Super League still needs to secure support from fans, clubs, and other stakeholders to truly succeed. UEFA's indication of opposing the ESL through alternative means suggests that a series of complex disputes may persist.

It's truly evident that the European Union is steadfast in its approach. It remains uncertain which players will join in the future.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both facing financial concerns, and only the European Super League could potentially turn the situation around.

For many years, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been considered financial powerhouses in La Liga, acting as major beneficiaries. Unlike the Premier League, where broadcasting revenues are relatively evenly distributed, these two clubs have been enjoying a significant share. Now, after years of benefiting from this system, they are rebelling against it.

Actually, UEFA is just a non-governmental organization, not an official institution, much like the NBA in the United States. UEFA is essentially a business entity. If all the teams unite, UEFA would be rendered obsolete. However, football, as the world's leading sport, relies on its fans and the foundation provided by various lower-level teams. If, like the NBA, there were only 30 teams participating, it would undermine the essence of football. This is why governments worldwide oppose the establishment of the European Super League.

In fact, the owners of the English Premier League  clubs are even more eager to establish the ESL than Real Madrid and Barcelona, especially those American owners, as sports in the United States operate in a similar way. However, due to pressure from the British government, they had to withdraw the plan. Let's also talk about the UEFA Champions League. Initially, it was Real Madrid that organized and proposed the idea of the Champions League. When the Champions League was first proposed, it faced considerable opposition. However, after more than 60 years, it has become one of the most entertaining competitions globally.

The establishment of the ESL was primarily driven by the financial struggles of major clubs during the pandemic. Additionally, UEFA's plan to expand the Champions League and its control over lucrative sponsorships prompted the elite clubs to rebel. With less money flowing to the top clubs, they felt compelled to take a stand. The allure lies in these elite clubs and exceptional players. Currently, it seems unlikely that the ESL will succeed in the short term. However, if UEFA's behavior becomes increasingly unappealing, I believe there will come a day when the ESL is established.

It looks like UEFA holds significant influence; even the European football community dares not oppose it. It seems to be a settled situation, doesn't it?

Ah, I used to oppose the European Super League, but now thinking about it, I don't really care. Anyway, more matches mean more opportunities for betting. If there's a European Super League, so be it. Love it or leave it.
