When India, supported by a biased home crowd at the Wankhede Stadium, dismissed both of New Zealand's openers for 39 runs in the eighth over, they appeared to have curtailed their aggressive chase. Nonetheless, Daryl Mitchell and his captain, Kane Williamson, who combined for 181 runs and scored 69 runs, played a valiant and brilliant century to spearhead New Zealand's comeback. However, India, riding high on a massive total, opened the gates for New Zealand to bat by getting rid of Glenn Phillips, and Mitchell's removal in the 46th over all but sealed the victory.
