On April 30, 2023, Stephen Curry achieved a historic feat by scoring 50 points in a crucial Game 7, helping the Warriors defeat the young and competitive Kings. Just thinking back to the unexpected loss at home in Game 6 against the Kings, many had their doubts about the Warriors' chances, and it seemed like they were about to face humiliation. However, superstar Curry delivered an exceptional performance when it mattered the most, silencing all those who doubted the Warriors and providing a valuable lesson to the young Kings.
Leading up to the game, many had underestimated the Warriors. After all, the Kings were known for their youthful energy this season, featuring young and talented players like Fox and Monk, who were full of athleticism. Additionally, the Kings' coach, Brown, was widely regarded as the season's best coach. On the other hand, the Warriors had an unbalanced roster, with their championship core aging, and young players like Poole often struggling. Moreover, the Warriors had a less-than-stellar away game record. Consequently, most people believed that the Kings were the more likely team to advance.
However, the reason why we endlessly praise superstars is that they always manage to do things that exceed our expectations, and this game was a perfect example of that. When everyone had a poor shooting start, Curry single-handedly carried the Warriors in the first half, scoring 20 points in just the first two quarters, giving the struggling Warriors a chance to regroup for the second half. In the second half, Curry continued his incredible performance, and other teammates gradually regained their confidence thanks to Curry's outstanding play, ultimately defeating the Kings.
In this game, Curry was like a basketball deity, making 20 out of 38 field goal attempts, including 7 of 18 three-pointers, while also contributing 8 rebounds and 6 assists. He gave his all to help the team break free from the pressure. His 50-point performance set a new record for scoring in an NBA postseason Game 7! It can be said that Curry turned the tide and saved the day. After the game, during an interview, Curry mentioned that his coach had commanded him to do so. Coach Kerr had said to Curry, "The Kings' coach knows our tactics too well. You understand what needs to be done next, right? We need you to step up, and I must order you to score 50 points. Only you can save me, save the entire team, and save your teammates."
And Curry indeed delivered! Even though Fox and Monk are among the top young players in the league, Curry showed them what it means to be a true king and demonstrated that the twilight of a hero's career has not yet arrived, at least not in this season. He conveyed the message that the future belongs to them, but for now, it still belongs to the Warriors. After the game, Fox hugged Curry tightly during the handshake, heroes respecting heroes. There's no better image in sports than this one on the field. |
