In September 2016, American woman Lynda Sadowski tripped over a "Caution: Wet Floor" sign that had fallen on the ground at a local casino, resulting in a broken knee. Following a verdict from a jury in Hamilton County, Ohio, Sadowski is set to receive a compensation of $3 million.
Sadowski's attorney, Matt Nakajima, stated that after customers knocked over the sign, an employee present did not pick it up, leading to Sadowski's subsequent fall and knee fracture. The attorney mentioned in an email that a steel plate was implanted in Sadowski's knee, and her mobility has gradually declined, potentially requiring a second surgery.
Nakajima indicated that throughout the entire trial, Jack Casino showed extreme indifference to customer safety. The casino had not implemented floor control or fall prevention safety policies. However, Jack Casino's defense attorney argued that the fallen sign was visible, and Sadowski didn't notice it, stating, "It's because she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings." Consequently, the casino believed Sadowski should not prevail in the lawsuit.
The jury in Hamilton County disagreed with the casino's perspective and ultimately ruled that Jack Casino had failed to reasonably maintain a safe environment, leading to Sadowski's injury. As a result, the casino is required to pay Sadowski $3 million in compensation. |
