A thousand American gamblers urge the government to ban themselves from entering casinos.
More than 1,000 gamblers in Massachusetts consider themselves addicted to gambling and have requested the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to ban them from entering casinos.
According to the Boston Herald, there are currently 1,020 participants in the Voluntary Self-Exclusion program administered by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. Since its establishment in 2015, nearly 1,300 people have participated in this program.
Among those participating in voluntary self-exclusion, 28% have requested a one-year ban from casinos, 16% have requested a three-year ban, 53% have requested a five-year ban, and an additional 3% have requested a lifetime ban.
According to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, nearly 70% of voluntary self-exclusion participants are male, with an average age of 46.
"The number of participants is impressive; this is a milestone," said Mark Vander Linden, the director of the Gaming Commission. He also mentioned, This is just what we know about in Massachusetts; there is a small percentage of individuals who are difficult to control and may still gamble. |
