On February 9th, the Los Angeles Lakers held a ceremony to unveil the statue dedicated to the legendary basketball star Kobe Bryant.
The Lakers are set to erect three statues in honor of Kobe. The first one, unveiled today, depicts Kobe in the iconic pose of pointing to the sky with one hand, commemorating the night when he scored 81 points.
During the unveiling ceremony, speeches were given by Kobe's widow Vanessa, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, former Lakers player Derek Fisher, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and former coach Phil Jackson. They reminisced about Kobe's legendary career.
According to Vanessa, two more statues of Kobe will be erected—one in tribute to him wearing the number 24 jersey, and another to commemorate Kobe and his daughter Gianna. The unveiling dates and locations for these two statues have not been determined yet.
Vanessa revealed that Kobe himself personally selected the design for the sculptures while he was still alive. |
