According to statistics from the Census and Statistics Bureau, at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, the full-time employees in the gaming industry numbered 51,771, witnessing an annual decrease of 403 individuals (-0.8%). Among them, officials from Macau (23,359 individuals) experienced a reduction of 362 people (-1.5%).
In terms of average wages, the average salary for full-time employees in the gaming industry in December (excluding irregular wage components) was MOP 25,290, marking a year-on-year growth of 6.8%. The average salary for Macau officials was MOP 20,870, showing a growth of 5.4%. This increase was primarily due to a lower baseline resulting from a higher number of wage suspensions in the same period of 2022.
With the steady economic recovery and increasing demand for human resources, there was an annual increase of 387 job vacancies in the gaming industry (400 total) at the end of the fourth quarter. Among these vacancies, 23.8% required work experience, and 84.8% only required a high school diploma or below. In terms of language skills, 97.0% and 83.5% required proficiency in Mandarin and English, respectively.
During the fourth quarter, the number of new employees and departures was 1,035 and 843, respectively. The employee hiring rate (2.0%) and turnover rate (1.6%) increased by 1.8 and 0.1 percentage points annually, respectively. The vacancy rate was 0.8%, reflecting the continuous growth in demand for human resources in the gaming industry.
